Spots on leaves
Can anyone tell me what is causing spots on my hydrangea leaves?

  • From the picture it looks like leaf spot. does the base of the hydrangea have this going on? purplish/brown spots? If the answer is yes, then you need to remove the infected leaves and dispose of them and then you can control leaf spot with a fungicide. You also want to add some good composted soil to your hydrangeas since they may need the extra nitrogen to help them fight this disease. But removing the diseased leaves on the plant and on the ground is number 1 priority. Do not worry, this is a common thing and cleaning up the area where the hydrangea is every fall/spring is a must so the disease does not spread. happy gardening.

You may want to take a couple of leaves in a sealed plastic bag to your local extension office to confirm, but I believe The Garden Frog has correctly identified the problem as leaf spot. Try to avoid overhead watering of your hydrangeas. You may want to spread some corn meal under the plants. There is some evidence this helps to keep the fungus in check.
