Cottage Kitchens - So Where to Start to Achieve a Cottage Look?
Do you love photos of cottage kitchens, but, not sure where to start decorating the same style for your kitchen? Well, I have put some ideas together that will help you create a warm and cozy kitchen!
Cottage kitchens are warm, comforting, and inviting. Painted cabinets are on the top of my list as a must do for the cottage look. Don't be intimidated about painting your cabinets. It is time consuming, but you can do it! Remember to change your hardware, it will make a huge difference. This is my kitchen. My cabinets used to be dark brown!
Change out your sink, and faucet. I purchased my porcelain sink and faucet from Home Depot. A new sink and faucet really changed the look of my entire kitchen!
Accessorizing is one of the key components to decorating a cottage kitchen. You want to be careful not to have too many decor items. You can go from accessorized to cluttered very quickly.
Need and inexpensive kitchen table centerpiece idea? I purchased this red pie plate from Target, and the faux pears from Hobby Lobby.
My under-counter plug-in lights cost $8 a piece from the hardware store.. For the price of two Starbuck's, you can make one of the most significant changes in your kitchen. I made a small counter lamp from a large mason jar, adapter kit for mason jar (Amazon) and a burlap shade. i filled the jar with some of my grandmother's old pastry tips (easily 75 years old). it is just right. i also have the self-stick, battery operated led lights under bottom of upper cabinets (unseen except for light). The hubs painted our oak cabinets in butter cream (top) and sage (bottom) from Benjamin Moore and i also bought new "old" brushed nickle hardware online. we did have a new countertop put in of Caesarstone and a new wood floor, but it's really the decor that makes it. i have a skirted area next to my stove, a hanging rack to display pitchers & towels, and old bowls & kitchen tools on top of the cabinets. We also have a real jewel - - the kitchen table my dad ate at as a child! The hubs refinished it after it made its rounds to a few folks and then returned to us when someone was moving,full of bad water stains!
