Old, sad sewer line

Our house is almost 60 years old and the sewer line really needs replacing. (We have to call the plumber about every 3 months to snake it out), Is there anything we can do to make the plumbers visits less frequent until we can afford a new line? Is there any type of commercial preventative you could recommend? Any thing ? :) Thanks!

sounds like a break in the line,,and roots are getting in.....Don't know if will help but, there is a type of liner that can be put in..its an epoxy process, I think.. We have seenit at the home shows.. Its not cheap either, but may be worth it..Certain trees are worse than others.....WILLOW are one of the worst,,for sewers and foundations.... roots are like steel..good luck

By the way,,,,,,,,,,,,If you have a garbage disspoal,,,,,,,,,DON"T USE IT,, IF you do,,,run LOTS and LOTS of HOT HOT HOT water down it with backing soda......... they can be bad news especially corn husks,swiss chard stalks, celery, NEVER NEVER put any oil or grease downit either..There are enzymes you can buy from the plumber,, put some down each drain weekly.... WE deal with the same thing,,only every 2-3 yrs..always whe we get company or its a major holiday!

I have the same exact problem , I have gone a whole year now without calling the plumber. First of all make sure no sanitary napkins are put in the toilet. I use washing soda when I do the laundry helps break up the toilet paper in the sewer lines. . I keep bleach pour down the floor drain, bath tub, and all the sinks, and toilets often.. Just before the tree roots start to grow in the spring I buy Root X that foams up you pour it down the lowest part in the house you have a toilet the foam kills off the tree roots even the ones that grow up over the pipe. I have a broken pipe 7yrs ago they estimated 4000.00 to fix the problem. Good luck I hope some of my suggestions help.
