Can I just add onto an old deck?
-
The Garden Frog with C Renee on May 22, 2014Add on-do you mean make the deck bigger? If so, then this would not be a project you should handle since you already stated you are doing this by yourself. then for safety sake you will need to follow your county or city building codes for footing and/piers. You will need to know codes for attaching to your home or even to the existing deck. then you have to know how deep to dig for footings. there is some labor involved. Now if you just want to spruce up your deck and the boards are really rough, then see if you can turn them over (this is not hard if the deck boards were screwed in). My deck was in really rough shape so I took the boards off and flipped them and they looked almost new! If there is something specific, post pictures and exact questions too for better and more detailed answers. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply
