"Zinc" Succulent Planter

My sister has a zinc planter in her kitchen that I fell in love with so I decided to DIY the whole thing on the cheap. I used some inexpensive 1 x 3s and my Kreg Jig to make a planter box, then affixed aluminum siding. To 'zincify' the whole thing, I pulled out the heavy artillery from Home Depot. All in, this planter (including the succulents) cost less than $50 and I LOVE how similar it is to the one I fell in love with. Sometimes I fill it with soil and plant it out and other times I just pop in some seasonal pots and call it a day! It's small enough to fit along the back of my counter so... it's great!
The finished product.
P.S. This was my inspiration... the copy cat is pretty close I think!

Very nice! What did you use to color the top edge of the wood? It looks gray on the finished project.
