The warmer weather is finally here (fingers crossed?), and now’s a perfect time to redo your garage floor. Check out this DIY garage floor kit that you can use to seal and protect your garage floor from water and stains. You'll be amazed at just how incredible a garage floor can look! Take a look at the Material of the Week: Rust-Oleum Garage Coating Kit in a variety of colors and accents here. The kit comes with everything you'll need to transform your garage floor from just functional to fabulous!
Garage Floor Makeover: Metallic Gunmetal Silver

The incredible duo over at Mother Daughter Projects shares their full garage floor makeover with us using the Rust-Oleum Garage Floor kit. First, you’ll need to clean your garage floor well, removing all dust and debris from the floor.
1. Mix the concrete etch solution (included in the kit)  with water, and use it to clean the surface of the floor and prepare it for the coating. Be sure to follow the instructions on your kit carefully, as each kit's instructions may differ.
2. As per directions on the kit, mix together the sealing agents in the pouch provided and add any tints that may come with your kit. Steph used a Metallic kit in Gunsteel Silver, so she added her silver tint here.
3. Pour the coating over the floor evenly. Start near the edges, and use a brush to apply the coating to the corners and edges.
Use a paint roller to apply evenly over the entire surface of the floor. Rust-Oleum recommends applying in a “W” or “M” shape to uniformly spread the coating over the floor.
Coating this garage took this team 2 hours. Not all garages are created equally -- so make sure to measure your floor. You may need to order more than one kit for full coverage.
Look at these results -- almost too pretty to park on!

DIY Garage Floor Coating With Decorative Chips

The great thing about these kits is that they come in all sorts of colors and finishes. In the tutorial above, Steph chose Gunmetal Silver because she thought her mini-cooper would look really cute parked on the metallic silver floor. For this project, Sabrina and Co. chose a Rocksolid gray coating kit with blue denim decorative chips.
The painting method is the same as described above, but this kit comes with confetti-like decorative chips that you scatter evenly over the floor as you go.
This coating is not recommended for long term exposure to direct sunlight, so Sabrina recommends taping off your edges to the curb or where the garage door meets the floor. Finish painting, then let dry. The recommended cure time is 8-10 hours for foot traffic and 24 hours for vehicle traffic. Depending on the weather, times may be different where you live.
2 days later, Sabrina and her crew applied the clear top coat that came with her kit. Following your kit's instructions, mix the contents of the pouches together and apply the top coat with a roller.
Check this out -- beautiful smooth, clean shiny floors! Who would’ve guessed this was possible in a garage? We’re loving it!

We did this on our garage floor when we bought this house 5 years ago. The finish has held up very nicely. We're planning to paint the garage floor the same way in our new house when we move in the near future.
