SPIDERS IN THE HOME

by Karen Miller
Can anyone help, we get spiders in our house regularly in the Spring/Summer months. We did have a nest or something one year but sprayed the heck out of it with bug spray and no more spiders were hanging out my front door. Can't stand them and need help, thanks.

Need to spray the perimeters of your home, inside and out. If you have attic or crawl space, bomb those places.

There are lots of recipes for spider control in Pinterest .They do not like peppermint.I am finding a lot of spider sacs the last few days on my porches,so now is the time to start treating this nasty situation.Several years ago,got bitten by a recluse spider- very nasty, make sure you receive medical treatment, can become a very dangerous event.I reached into a deck cabinet without gloves and it felt like a bee sting.several hours later, skin on arm turned black. The spider venom destroys skin tissue, and skin will slough off.Much more cautious of spider bites since!!!

Thank you Adrianne C. I will be sure to do both! No basement or attic/crawlspace here... hey, I'd never to in them!! lol Funnygirl~ eww, that isn't the least bit funny, sorry you went through that. I will check on Pinterest, if I can save money and get the job done, even better. Thanks!

Hi Karen, I used to have a couple of tall evergreen shrubs that grew up against my house, spiders loved them !! thousands lived in them, I always had spider problems until I got rid of those shrubs. If you have these shrubs that could be where they are coming from. I know its a horrible problem to have and I hope that this helps you find the source. I really feel for you.

I agree with Yvonne, if you have shrubbery or climbing plants close to or attached to the house, it encourages spiders to come inside. Also ensure you use those door guards that seal off the gap under your exit doors. Spiders and stuff can creep in under them. Other than that ask at your hardware or pest control for a spider spray which you need to do every year to keep them at bay. We get some whoppers that come in under our doors (I really need to fix my door draught guards) and they take up residence high up on the walls where they only move at night to hunt smaller insects. They are Huntsmen spiders and can be as big as your hand. I leave them alone and although I don't like spiders I have learned to live with them as long as they don't stray down the walls during the day I am happy to have them in the house and do their 'hunting' at night. They don't make webs. The spiders I refer to can bite if pushed but are not generally inclined to and the bite won't kill. Australia is full of insects and other critters that are venomous so you very soon learn to recognise what is what and leave anything dangerous alone!
