Make Your Own Light Fixtures!

Our old dining room was in sad lighting with only a ceiling fan and an old, ugly light fixture. We are on a tight budget, so we made our own with wire baskets and junk wood!
Cut the bottom out of baskets and screw in a light kit. The baskets weren't sturdy when we cut out the bottom, so we made little circles with cardboard for extra support.
We took down the existing light and installed an outlet in its place. Don't worry...it makes sense in the end!
We built two boxes with wood from our junk wood pile. The blocks are for mounting to the ceiling. The big boxes will be screwed to these blocks once everything is plugged in.
We drilled a hole in the ceiling for the cords to go from the far fixture to the plug that was hidden under the other one. My son very kindly went up in our nasty attic to move the cords up there. I gave him ice cream.
They turned out to be so cute and the light they put out is perfect for the room! Not too much, not too little. I'm living in Goldilocks and the Three Bears nursery rhyme!
I just really, really like them!

I love your ingenuity and the final look! Good job. People, you know what Tim says, "Always be humble and KIND." You don't always have to agree, like, etc. , then just keep your mouth shut! Have a good one!
