The Yellow Garden Chair That Had the Whole Neighbourhood Talking

Remember that time I took a trip to that old abandoned farmhouse and brought home a truck full of (free) goodies? No? Oh, you obviously missed this post then - http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/chalk-paint-yard-stick-makeover-3772869
For those of you who didn't, here is another refurbished gem from that trip - my now yellow garden chair.
It started out plain enough - just a regular old dining chair, very aged and worn. The wood looked pretty enough as it was, and I could have left it and just replaced the seat fabric, but I was looking for something to place next to my front door to sit flowers on. I wanted it to be bright and vibrant. It had to be yellow.
The seat came off really easily - just a few screws! That made it easy to paint. I used some paint mixed with plaster of paris to make a homemade chalk-style paint. Oh, and if you are wondering if I primed it or not, you'll want to check out the post here - you might just be surprised at my advice! http://becomingmartha.com/yellowgardenchairmakeover/
I simply wrapped fabric around the old seat pad, and stapled underneath. I found the outdoor fabric on sale for like $5 a metre, and I only needed half a metre, so in total, I spent just under $10 for this chair!

And as for the neighbourhood talking part of this post - you would not believe how many people would stop and say "Hey! I love your chair!" or "That is the best color, I love it!" - just random strangers walking by. When I met people at our block party a few weeks later, they would all say "Oh, you live in the house with the bright yellow chair! I love that chair!" That made me so happy to hear!
