Painting kitchen cabinets

I was wondering if anyone was ever sorry for painting their oak kitchen cabinets white and how they held up to cleaning and everyday use.

My cousins were told that if they painted their oak cabinets white it would help the sale of their home. I told them not to since they were beautifully detailed upscale cabinets. But they were anxious to sell and that was three years ago and they still own the house and the awful white cabinets. Much easier to clean prior to painting. They have white oak cabinet remorse. They turn off the buyers since they look so sterile. No warmth of beautiful oak.

I read a lot of blogs and frequent a lot of websites that feature painted white kitchens and to my recollection, it seems the majority of people are extremely happy with the change and not the least bit remorseful. Oak and other wood tones come and go in popularity but white is pretty classic. I currently have white cabinets (not painted--I ordered them in white) and I absolutely love them. I've had other wood tones but white is my favorite, hands down. Even though I cook almost every day, and sometimes twice a day, I don't find them difficult to keep clean, at all. I think if cabinets are prepped properly and a good quality primer and paint is used on them, they should hold up and look good for a long, long time.

We had remodeled our kitchen and replaced our oak cabinets with white. We saved the doors and made a wall of cupboards in our back entrance way and painted them white. They wash super easy. I've used magic eraser on them and that didn't take the paint off. I love them. Just make sure when you prime, you leave them for at least a couple of weeks, and then paint. They will wear much better and not chip easily. Ours was done 3 years ago and no chips yet.

I have painted kitchen cabinets in five houses. (Three were my own house and two were relatives') I have not regretted any of them. I think it depends on your taste. Two of the houses we owned and painted the kitchen cab's, we later sold. The painted cabinets enhanced the sale of our homes. You must prep before painting. (sand, clean, prime) or it won't be a quality paint job.

personal preference white, its easier to see that they need wiping down, the sticky marks come off so easily too,it lightens the space and gives the impression of cleanliness
