From Scrap Wood to Master Bath Shelf
I needed some no-cost art for the master bathroom, so I rescued a beat-up shelf from the garden shed. Then I added some discarded corbel scraps that were left over from the half wall demolition. Together, they make a handy and decorative shelf.
I started with these discarded corbels. I used my miter saw to shave off about 1/8" from the top to get rid of the leftover Liquid Nails gunk. This allowed the shelf to sit flush on the top of the corbels.
This is the shelf I rescued from the garden shed. I had to caulk all the cracks and give the whole thing a coat of primer and two coats of semi-gloss white paint.
I primed and painted both the shelf and corbels really well to make them look fresh and new again.
Finally, I screwed the corbels to the wall where the studs were located and sat the shelf on top. I hadn't adhered the shelf yet when I took this photo. I need to shift that shelf to the right a bit. ;)
