What kind of vine is this?

Nancy J Goldwire on May 28, 2014VERY (!) carefully, mix a spray of 20% vinegar with 2 TBS dish soap in a quart spray container. Place a piece of cardboard in front of the rose to protect it & spay the "leaves" of the vine. Or you can spray the root area. This should kill the vine, without harming your soil.Helpful Reply

Amy Merriam on May 28, 2014I don't know what it is....but I'm guessing that it will eventually kill that tree. I would cut it off at the bottom and then every time it sprouts any new leaves...hit them with weed killer, vinegar, and/or boiling water. You could try inverting a heavy glass container over the cut stem for a few months and see if that kills it.Helpful Reply

Brenda LeCloux on May 28, 2014No idea what that vine is but I would do the boiling water if there are no other plants that would die. Boiling water will kill off most unwanted growing things.Helpful Reply

Harriette Brice on May 28, 2014Until I know where it is coming from I cannot do a lot with it. The house next door to me has been vacant for over 5 years since the owner died and no one in family has done anything with it. The city will occasionally mow the front, but the gate to the back is locked and they let weeds and everything grow. My rose is huge and climbs on the fence in a corner for poison or hot water will not be the answer. It is coming from the other yard from what I can tell. I pull what I can out of the rose bush and hope for the best. I was afraid it might be kudzu. I know it is in Texas and have seen it on my trips throughout the south.Helpful Reply

KathrynElizabeth Etier on May 28, 2014If it has curly tendrils that wrap around stems, twigs, and branches of other plants it's kudzuu. If it is kudzuu, it is actually edible and there are plenty of recipes on the 'net. As for killing it...good luck. It's the bane of the south.Helpful Reply
