DIY Sea Glass With Nautical Netting

Once the 3-day Memorial Day weekend has passed we can start wearing white, flip flops and of course start breaking out the starfish, shells and sea glass. Do you love the look of sea glass? You can easily make your own with a plain jar, paint and some recycled produce netting.
The secret ingredient is Martha Stewart Translucent FROST glass paint. The frost finish is what gives the glass that sand blasted textured look. To make this jar I started with a light coat of Martha Stewart Translucent Glass Paint in Key Lime (this coat wasn't the Frost finish). Once that dried, I painted a second coat in Martha Stewart Translucent Glass Frost in Beach Glass (blue).
Once the paint is dry, you can leave your jar as-is or embellish it like I chose to do. I used a plastic net that I had been saving. This is the type of net you get with produce of other bundled products.Depending on how the light hits the jar, the blue can look more sea green or sea blue.
Slip the jar into the netting and secure with glue around the inside rim. Add twine or string to hide the neck of the jar. I added a piece of leather cording and a tag. Shells and sea glass! Three cheers for summer!

Do you think this would work for bottles that will be outside and exposed to the elements?

@MaryO I haven't personally tested them outside but the product is supposed to be dishwasher safe and permanent. It cures in 21 days or in the oven according to the directions. So I would assume it would be ok outside.

Do you live in a very cold, snowy, climate? If so, just be sure to bring them in for the winter. I left some solar lights outside, made from canning jars. I live near Lake Erie, worst winters ever! The jars all "exploded" from the cold, so just a word of caution.

@tegma Thanks for the tip! Being in Southern California, I always forget how cold it gets elsewhere. Ooooh - Lake Eerie. I hear it gets really cold when the wind comes off the lake. I'm sure you're enjoying this nice pre-summer weather.
