Why Is There Snow In The Freezer?

Do you have snow covering everything in your freezer? It is an annoying problem but the cause is clear, a broken seal. When outside air sneaks in the moisture it is carrying forms snow.

Snow starting to form in the freezer and is most apparent where the seal is broken.

More moisture freezing on the tray in the freezer.

It might not be much, but it doesn't take a big gap to allow air flow. Fix the problem by replacing the seal. Make sure to find the seal that is made for your refrigerator/freezer. If you have an older refrigerator/freezer and can't find a replacement part, weatherstripping (made for doors) can work well as a temporary fix.

It could also be the defrost timer if it is automatic defrost. It could be someone left it open. There are many reasons for ice to form. It could be electric went off for awhile and then came back on.

  @Sherrie thanks for the comment! What you're describing is ice formations whereas the air gap produces snow crystallization. It is a small difference but important when diagnosing the problem.

My late husband and I had a store and repair business for 20 years. I described it so others could understand easier. And I have seen a lot of gaskets create exactly what your saying. I think it's a great idea that your giving tips to home owners about appliances! It will help you and them both!
