DIY Upholstered Headboard With Nail Head Trim

An easy and under $100 DIY upholstered headboard that rivals the Pottery Barn inspiration!
Here are a few ways we cut down on costs - we used particle or chipboard from Lowes, which is less expensive than plywood, but seemed to be stronger and more straight.
Instead of upholstery foam, we used egg crate mattress pads in the full/queen size from Walmart. They are each 1 inch in thickness and we used three for a total of 3 inches in padding. We also purchased the high loft batting at Walmart. One package was enough for the entire headboard with some to spare.
I chose a white cotton duck fabric at $5.49 a yard and needed four yards to cover the headboard. I purchased the large upholstery tacks at a local fabric outlet for $2.99 a bag - I used about 1 1/2 bags. Stop by my blog for the full tutorial.

Thank you! This is totally awesome. My movers broke my headboard. I will be using this idea to replace it. Cant wait to get my personalized look!

What a beautiful headboard. Excellent tutorial. Definitely inspired to try this myself (with husbands ”help” of course). Thank you!
