Whenever you attach two unlike materials, you run the risk of moisture condensing between the materials and causing mold and rot. Better to remove the wood siding and attach a cement board for exterior application to the studs. Then you can apply a cement or stucco finish. The cement board helps with adhesion, too. Ask about techniques and materials at your lumber yard.
