Ideas on ugly headboard

Linda
by Linda
I have this outdated oak finish headboard in my guest room. It does have some nice details and curvy insets. My initial idea was to use chalk paint in a gray color with black glaze & make padded inserts out of drop cloth. My bedding is muted lavender/gray with eggplant colored flowers. Would love any other ideas!! Thanks

Your idea sounds like a good one. Try the chalk paint and black glaze all over first , before you do the padded inserts, just in case you like it with out the padded inserts. I can't wait to see your results. I also can't wait to see some ideas from other people, I need ideas also, I've been without a headboard for my bed for years, and it really needs one.

Please post photos when you finish, so we can be inspired to do something with our old pieces:)

I like the shape of the headboard...almost a celtic feel to it. I'd restain it an espresso color, which would match your bedspread and bring it right into the style you see in all the pricy shops right now!

Interesting, I hadn't thought about that. Don't know how it would take a stain. Will definitely experiment with that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'd spray paint it using Rust-oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze. As a previous commenter noted - it will go well with your bedspread - and will save you the time and effort associated with stripping and staining it.

I think the colors you chose will give a very serene feeling to the bed. Exactly what you want for guests who are away from their own home and might be a little anxious. I wouldn't use any dark colors on it.

Not knowing what the rest of the room looks like i would suggest to you .. painting the bed white & the walls of the room the same color as the dark color of the bedspread.Add cute white side tables & white lamps w/ shades in white & same dark color bold stripe pattern. A lot of work but a cozy retreat
