How to Mix Evergreens and Spring/summer Flowers for Year Round Color
Living in Northwest Indiana approximately 40 miles south of Chicago I get some brutal winters. Having 5 months of snow can make anyone depressed when all you see if flat snow with no color. I started adding evergreens (Arborvitae, Junipers, etc) to my flower beds so that even during the coldest periods filled with all that dreary white stuff...I can look outside and still see yellows, greens and blues. It definitely makes a difference in my mood.
Allium bulbs - a late spring pop of color next to a yellow evergreen. The tag called it Sunburst. (Someone please make garden centers all create the same tag with all the info on the plant or tree)
In the winter time the birds nest in the available bird houses and the arborvitae. Here my Wine and Roses Weigela are becoming a show stopper. And the hummingbirds are loving it too. Bonus!
