Stopper Won't stay in sink

I have one of those bathroom sinks where you pull the back stopper and it pulls the plug down to stopper the drain. After a nasty clog, (which It took me about 45 minutes-1 hour to plunger out) the plug no longer stays propped up, no matter how i have the back stopper. I looked in with a flash light and the little hook that should hold it up is gone...

Easy fix with new stopper kit at Lowes or Home Depot.
