Easy
Here are 10 easy things you can do immediately to be more environmentally conscientious without spending a dime. And they might even save you some money!
Make reusable napkins from old clothes. We used scraps of old tee shirts for ours.
Turn off the lights when you are not in a room. Sounds simple right? They say it takes something like 21 times to form a habit. It might take little sticky note reminders on the switches to get the family to remember to do this, but once it become a habit, you won't even think twice about it.
Turn your thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer. Even just a few degrees can make a difference in your energy bills. Throw on a blanket or sweatshirt in the winter and wear lighter clothing in the summer. Your body will adjust over time to the temperature changes.

I would like to add a couple more: Use hot water bottles at night in cold weather, rather than a heater or electric blanket. If you use a knitted hot water bottle cover it keeps the bottle warm all night. Pop the bottle into the bed about 15 mins before you retire for the night and the bed will be lovely and warm - no more cold sheets! Wash kitchen clothes such as J - clothes or Chux wipes instead of throwing them out and buying a new pack every week or so. If you pop them in the delicates bag that you use for your undies, it saves them from getting shredded in the washing machine. Tear up toilet roll tubes and add to your compost heap. Collect autumn leaves from local streets for your compost to add carbon to counteract all those grass clippings and kitchen scraps. Some people don't have access to fallen leaves in their gardens so take a rake and a container to the streets and rake them up and pop them in the boot of your car and fill a bin with them which you then keep next to your compost bins or heaps. Every time you add kitchen scraps, add some fallen leaves so that the Nitrogen/Carbon ratio is balanced. Use a throw on your lap in the evening when it gets chilly rather than putting the heating on. If you don't have air con or don't want to run it in hot weather, a plastic bottle or hot water bottle filled with cold water works really well in the bed to cool you down over night on those nights when it is impossibly hot and hard to sleep. There are plenty more but these are just a few ideas that I know we use at home and they work.

@Kelly Bisciotti Kelly, I knit covers for mine and went to bed hugging the hottie bottle last night and was lovely and toasty warm! It was still warm this morning. If they don't have a cover they go cold during the night and if you accidentally touch them or roll on them when they are cold - eeek! LOL! If you don't knit you can re-use an old sweater to wrap them in and it will do the same job!
