Scored this chair for $10 at a consignment shop and am looking for another one like it. Can anyone tell me what it's called so I can search for it more easily?

I'd search for "vintage curved back armless upholstered chair". If you don't know what to call it, betcha whoever's selling it doesn't know either. ;^)

OK, did a little searching. Looks like they might call it an armless accent chair, if that helps.

I've seen similar chairs called slipper chairs.

Thanks to your suggestions I did a little digging and found out it's called a Kroehler tub barrel swivel chair. Looks like I got a great deal on my $10 purchase.

In the 1940's they were in bedrooms and were called "slipper chairs" to sit on and put your shoes on. They were always armless, seats wide for sitting, and the backs were rolled vertically.

This is an updated slipper chair. They are originally from the Victorian era. Along with use for dressing, women used these because they were lower to the ground and arm-less. This type of seating was useful because of the underpinnings and voluminous dresses worn in those times.

Mid-century slipper chair. The original slipper chairs date back to the 17th century. They were popular for ladies repose areas or tea rooms. Their usually short in height with no arms and a wide seat. They were made to accommodate a woman's layers and or bindings. They were also commonly paired with fainting couches, which are now better known as chaise lounges. Which are the larger and more modern versions.

My family had a smaller one in the '50s when I was young. Everyone was glad to get rid of it in the 90's. I wish I had it now :-)

wow, you got a killer deal there! The chairs in the photos below are selling on ebay for a lot. $750 for the pink pair and $1195 for the green pair (with 17 watchers)! They''re not even claiming to be authentic Frieze Kroehlers. One very similar to yours with a leaf pattern sold for $650. They're probably more valuable in their original upholstery, but the third pair from Etsy (also sold) have been reupholstered & look awfully cute & fresh.

My grandparents had these and they called them "davenports". Not sure if that is the correct term but centrd post is very enlightening.

I still think it is prt of a sectional couch......
    • Morgan Morgan on Jun 11, 2014
Most sectionals I've seen have a flat straight edge on each side of the back where the pieces rest together. These fan out slightly at the top and look meant to be freestanding.

Im not sure, but if I was looking I would go to art deco. (maybe from the 50-60s
  • Mssmatch Mssmatch on Jun 11, 2014
The bottom front gives it away - it is not prt of a sectional, I just looked at over 500 pictures of vintage sectionals

My parents had a green one in the fifties and it turned so all the kids wanted to sit in it and spin around. Ours was a mint green color. Sometimes we would have three or four of us in it! Thanks for the memories!

My parents had 2 of these, in gold, and my siblings, and eventually my kids and their cousins had a blast spinning on them. They were soooo comfortable. Sure wish I could ask my mother what the exact name was for them. We just referred to them as the spinning chairs.

Google mid century swivel chair...found several that looked like yours (watch carefully for ones that have the legs like yours) One was referred to as Barrel Shaped Swivel Chair, one was called a Lola Swivel Chair and another was called a Mid Century Modern Swivel Slipper Chair.
