Lois, I hope your husband is doing better. As for the stained carpet, I highly recommend Spot Shot in the spray bottle. You just spray it on and lightly press a white cloth over the stain. For worse stains you may have to repeat this process, but it does work. It's the only carpet spot cleaner I'll ever use. No rubbing, no waiting for it to "work". Just spray, pat, and lift. http://www.dobmeierjanitorialsupplies.com/assets/product-images/WD-40-WDC099119.jpg

I also use Spot Shot but if all else fails, try heat transfer. Take a damp white cloth, Put on stain, use a hot iron until it soaks up some of the stain. Rinse it out, keep repeating until stain is gone. It cost me $75 to learn after my dgs dumped kool ade on my almost new dining room carpet. It take time but it works on red stains. I think it might be worth the effort.

@I never would have guessed that Joan, as I've always been told heat set stains in, not take them out.

Becky, Stanley Steamer did it the first time at a cost of$ 75. I did it later. It does take patience and the cloth has to be pretty damp. It is called heat transfer.

@Thank you Joan. If my trusty Spot Shot doesn't work, I'll be trying this method on a couple carpet stains in our son's room. I'll be sure to take before, progress and after pictures so I can share them.
