Plant Your Herb Garden in Containers

Who doesn't love to have fresh herbs readily available for the kitchen or the barbeque in the summer months? If you plant them in containers they can be located in a sunny spot that's accessible from the door that's closest to your kitchen.
At the beginning of every summer I head to the garden centre to choose an assortment of herbs for planting. Some have become staples over the years...like rosemary for roasted potatoes, basil for Italian dishes, parsley and mint for taboulleh salad and garnishes, dill for grilled fish.
As I've purchased new urns every once in a while for display at the front door, I've ended up with some urns looking for other places in the yard, and a few of them are now being used for my herb garden. I've also used flowerpots, watering cans, windowboxes, concrete planters,... Be creative and shop your shed and garage for unused containers.
I always plant the mint in a container by itself. If you've never planted mint hop over the blog post to read about that! This year I found three varieties...spearmint, orange mint and CHOCOLATE mint! Shop around to see tha many interesting herbs available. Even if you don't use them thay smell amazing planted around your seating area.
And of course the finishing touch is replacing the store plant markers with some that are more beautiful. I got these as a Mother's Day gift one year, but Pinterest has tons of ideas for making your own.
It's so easy to get this little project done. Then sit back and enjoy the results of your hard work. Also this is a great way to get your kids involved in gardening. Hope over to the blog psot to find out how I involve my kids and for tips on preparing your soil for container planting. Cheers!

Smart to plant your chocolate mint in a container. I planted some in my garden last year and it has spread like crazy! And you're right- smells wonderful!
