Start by pouncing in the centers...I use a scruffy brush and two colors. You can use any number of colors, just look at photos of sunflowers for ideas. ..
Start adding in the petals with a flat brush and your two yellow colors. A darker gold and a medium yellow color.
Go all the way around with the petals then clean up the edges by pouncing along with the center color.
I even show how to do a bud and leaves. The video makes it much easier to see the steps and how the brushes move so if you like, click on over to the website to get a better view.

This is beautiful. I've struggled to do a sunflower on a stool, sanded it off twice. I'm going to give your technique a try. Thank you for sharing.
