I would like to update my kitchen and bath widows but I'm not sure what to do. Help please!

For the arched window I found a great treatment at Home Depot. It's a fan that you and customize to the size of your arch. It's made from paper but you can paint it or add a fabric to make it fit your decor.

Mine is off the wall. You might like it. Take down those dark shutters and the valance. Look through all the cool home stores online and find two or three or four (measure your window and note the width of it and the hand towels, add it up to meet or exceed your window width) --- for kitchen dish cloths in a linen-type fabric with prints that go together in colors that you like, not the terrycloth ones. Mine are 20"x24" each. So I am using 3, since my window is 35", so about twice its width. This gives a little softness. Order a tension rod and clip rings from Lowe's to fit your type and size of window. Clip the dishtowels to the rod. See if you need to sew the dishtowels together (I was going to crosshatch sew them edge-to-edge in red embroidery thread in big X's for cuteness), or sew them onto an old white sheet (sheet hemmed all around) as a lining, and clip rings on the lining, or what. Mine are Vera Bradley from Crate & Barrel called "Juicing" and they are really cute vegetables on a very off-white background. They look fabulous. When I want them open, just fling! Same to close. Everybody loves them. I selected a 1" oiled bronze tension rod (because I have a box window) and 2" clip rings. They have black too; don't get gold or white tho. This is what I did for cheap. Right now, Crate & Barrel has solid red cherries on white, and a yellow and light green citrus one also. Check it out! It's on the "Sale" page of Crate and Barrel dot com, scroll down quite a bit!

Remove dark shutters and valence - look is very heavy. I'd go with white mini-slats.- inexpensive, cut to fit. I wash mine in the bathtub when they need to be cleaned. Arched window - I'd just leave the arch or use one of those clear applications. Cut to fit, wet, and attach. Bottom - could do cellular or mini-slats.

Hello @Angelica - You should look into plantation shutters and honeycomb shades. Both of these types of treatments work really well in uniquely shaped windows. I love plantation shutters but not in bathrooms. When I changed my shower curtain, I bought two new ones, one for window and one for shower. I have an arched window also in the bathroom so I hung the curtain all the way to floor living the arch open.

Angelica, I actually lived in Southbridge for several years in early 2000 ! LOL Definitely take down those dark blinds !!! If you are on 2nd floor, and/or have a nice view, you might just hang a half curtain on that pair of windows. I Had a lot of light coming through my kitchen windows, so I put shelf brackets on each side of the window, close to the top...maybe 1/4 the way down from the top. I got a piece of wood from Lowes, and had it cut to the length I wanted. I painted it the color of my trim, and put it on the brackets. Hang curtains from the shelf down. I made my own, they are simple to make, but you can buy, or have a friend help you for those. If you have enough sun, you can put a couple plants up there. Underneath, you can hang some interesting stuff, like measuring cups, or coffee cups, if you want, as long as that doesn't interfere with the fridge door. As far as the other window, I would definitely NOT cover that arch. Like being crafty??? Have either a piece of glass cut to same size or plastic. There are stain glass pains available at arts n craft stores, with templates for you to create a stained glass look, or even try one yourself !!! A curtain from there down would be nice.

I would take the blinds off the arched window and leave it (if it's your bathroom and you need privacy, add some privacy film). Have you thought about white roman shades for your kitchen? They will make your home feel more modern, and there are very affordable ones at Macy's.

I love Patemeadows.com and from their site you'll find southern living home show patterns as well... they have a great selection of window treatment ideas with patterns for purchase. If you sew you can make some really great valances.

If you need privacy then change the blinds to white and buy a larger size that fits across both windows at one time with 2 inch wooden slats--a little more expensive but not as expensive as true plantation shutters-which I think would be great. I would have them if they weren't so expensive. If privacy isn't an issue remove them completely-freshen up the molding with paint. Good Luck.
