Discarded Bench Gets a Cushy New Look

I was picking up a chair from a seller on Craigslist and this was what I walked into. Imagine! Obviously I asked the seller whether they minded if I have a little looksie around. At the time, we were renovating over our garage so I didn't have storage area for anything big, but I couldn't resist this small little bench. I LOVED the legs and the color and thought that maybe I could brighten it up a bit without too much fuss. I had this runner from Homegoods with an upholstery project in mind… and it was almost meant to be it fit this bench so perfectly. For a full step by step, tutorial check out my blog!
I love the texture and the colors. And if I ever get bored of it, I can go back to the basic wood OR swap out for another throw rug!
Scary to some, the time of your life to others!! (Namely, ME!) This was the storage warehouse that was hiding this sweet little bench.
The legs were what sold me on this lovely. That and it's SUPER sturdy. And $10.
So sweet, right? I also loved the dark stain.
This rug was the PERFECT width… I didn't have to cut it thankfully. On the ends where I had to cut, it was quickly unravelling so harder to work with.
I used some thin foam because the rug itself was so thick compared to fabric. Because it was so thick, I used upholstery tacks instead of staples and just nailed it in under the lip of the bench.
Rather than hammer in individual tacks, I used these tack strips. I found these at JoAnn but they're pretty common at most craft stores.
I think the bench looks MUCH happier with this colorful rug on top, don't you?
