Ideas I Borrowed From Grocery Stores To Organize My Pantry

Easy
Have you ever wondered how grocery stores decide how and where to place all of the products they carry? Every item is placed on a shelf in a specific location so we the customer can find what we are looking for easily or even end up buying items we weren't even looking for because we were enticed by strategic product placement.
I organized my pantry using ideas borrowed from grocery stores. I figure if it works for them on a much larger scale it can work for me too on a smaller scale.
Come on into my walk-in pantry and let's check out some of the ideas...
I gave the items that I use frequently the best 'real estate' space and placed them on the middle shelves at the front of the pantry. Less frequently used items were delegated to the top shelf and the back corner of the pantry.
Canned food are organized according to type of food. Notice I placed some cork placemats underneath to protect the painted shelf. As new foods are added they are placed at the back. Grocery stores are always rotating their foods.
I too have organized my foods according to 'departments' and 'aisles'. This is the condiment section...
and here's the peanut butter/jam/honey section and the coffee section.
Grocery stores label all of their products. I have too! These labels are just blank index cards taped onto the clear plastic containers. That way I can easily remove and reapply them when I want to clean the container.
These are just a few of the ideas for how I have organized my pantry, Many of them I borrowed from the grocery store and many of them are my own. I invite you to come check out the blog post to get some inspiration!

By the way I worked in a grocery store part time while in high school and when I attended university. I think spending so much time going up and down the aisles rubbed off on me!

Another consideration besides frequency of use is weight. This is especially important for us older folks or anyone with limits to their strength or mobility. Put anything heavy at a level between your waist and knees, and right in the center of the space, to avoid the dangerous triple-whammy of bending, twisting and lifting all at once.

@Dana Corby Thank you Dana for sharing this consideration and reality for those with physical and/or mobility issues. You bring up some very valid points.

I keep the natural PB in the fridge and the other PB can stay in the pantry. The temperatures do not get too hot for too long where I live so it stays fresh.
