Why particle board?

Particle board is made of sawdust glued together. It is quick and easy to cut and mill. Much faster and easier than real solid wood. Manufacturers love it because they can make stuff fast and cheap. Water can ruin particle board quickly.Advantages of particle board are slanted in favor of the manufacturer, not the homeowner. Do you think people would buy particle board if they knew how inferior the product is to real wood?

I would imagine it depends on ones budget, whether or not they purchase it. Even if they do know it's of poor quality, it may be all they can afford. I've purchased it in the past for that very reason. We'd just moved across country and quite frankly it's all we could afford with the recent cost of moving, a home that had not sold yet on top of renting while our new home was being built. Knowing it's restrictions, I took care of it and it lasted quite a few years. I still have a couple of the pieces that I find useful for fabric storage. Though I could have replaced them with higher quality years ago, I have not.
