Are Solar Panels Worth the Cost?

A couple of years ago we had decided it was time to get our roof replaced, along with some other construction. Our contractor told us that putting on solar panels at the time of putting a new roof on would be ideal. He also told us that we could get a 25% tax credit for doing so - and we also found out our city would give us a large rebate for putting solar panels on our home.
We live in Southern California, where we have quite a bit of sunshine most of the year. But, we also have large utility bills - the cost of air conditioning our home in the 100 degree summer heat is ridiculous! So, we did the math and found out the return on investment {ROI} would be six years. That sounded great, considering we were getting the solar panels at 50% off with the tax credits and rebates.
Sure enough, our electric bill is now non-existent. We literally pay a $5 service charge monthly, that's it!
For the many of you that will ask, why did we buy versus lease, go to the post below the pictures to find out. All the information and costs on in the posts, too.

Adelina Benny Lopez on Jun 23, 2014Love the solar panel idea. Live in San Antonio,Texas where we have 2 seasons: humid and hot. Don't waste much electricity during "winter" but summer about $400 to $450 monthly

Cor1382303 on Sep 10, 2015By installing a solar panel, would the installation require any wiring around the house or outside? This is something that I'm actually thinking about doing for my home later today. Hopefully the fall weather won't be a bother for installing solar panels.
