Go Ahead: Add That Custom “Vinyl-Lined” Spa!

Many people want a vinyl-lined custom spa, but fear it will be difficult to match such a spa with the liner of their pool. At Long Island Hot Tub, we assure you that is not the case. With today’s rapidly advancing technology, vinyl-lined spas, with liners matched to the pool are becoming just as commonplace as other amenities such as vinyl-lined tanning shelves, vanishing edges, swim outs, beach entries and swim up bar stools.
When you meet with a designer/builder they should be able to fill you in on the more technical questions you may have, including whether it’s best to build a spa and pool at the same time, if you want both. However, there are plenty of good reasons for choosing a vinyl-lined custom spa, even if there’s no pool involved.
The smooth feeling of vinyl is a huge selling point, for example. In addition, vinyl liners are made with an algaecide that deters the growth of fungi, bacteria and algae, which makes keeping spa water clean much easier — a huge plus. Also, custom vinyl-lined spas (and pools for that matter) can be ready for enjoying in as little as three to six weeks, depending on weather and town inspections.
Whether on its own, or part of a pool/spa combo, spa water that can run cool in summer and warm in winter is a treat even a pool can’t match.
Custom Spas and Spools
Spools are a combination pool/spa in one feature with the advantages of both. With the addition of a waterfall, as well as an expansive patio, suddenly your backyard becomes party central even though space is at a premium.
Vinyl Spas
Vinyl-lined spas and pools are also less likely to crack because they rely on the flexibility of the vinyl liner to hold water, which is important during the freeze-thaw cycles of the Northeast. Instead of being restricted to choosing between 3 or 4 selections, liner companies offer a large assortment of custom-cut pool and spa liners that have designs such as sparkling blue, natural stone, tiles, marble, and mosaics.
Infinity Spas
Designed correctly, a custom spa can be part of a vanishing edge pool/spa combo (pictured here), or it can be installed on its own for unobstructed breathtaking infinite views.
Gunite/Shotcrete Pools
At Long Island Hot Tub, we design/build gunite, shotcrete and other types of custom spas. While they are typically more expensive than an equivalent pool, spool, or spa in vinyl, these features do offer many design options, and are the most common type of construction across the country. However in our area, Long Islanders often prefer the most cost effective “vinyl lined” spa, both for for vinyl’s comfort and for as its concrete walls with steel reinforcement.
