Make Your Own Tie Dyed Hammock

I purchased this hammock at an end of summer clearance two years ago. It was plain, but at only $5 too good of a deal to pass up. I've always wanted to liven it up a bit, though, and when I was sent a giant box of Tulip One-Step Tie Dye kits (America's favorite tie dye!), I knew exactly what I wanted to do. My dingy hammock was about to get a serious makeover!
I love summer! It's fun to have my kids at home so we can play and do things outside. I like to keep my kids busy with crafts and baking products, and this year we're going to tie-dye our summer. One of our first projects was this colorful rainbow hammock that we can enjoy all summer long.
Coil the hammock and wrap it in the plastic that comes with the kit.
I was happy with my rainbow colored hammock, but I kept looking at the bottle of black dye and thinking of how I could use it. I pulled out a butterfly stencil, and started on the next part of my project.
Pretty, isn't it? I love to cuddle with my kids in this hammock as we watch the birds fly overhead.

Just wondering where you found the kit?? I have a frame and trees to use for hammocks but just haven't found one that I really want, this looks fun to make and would make a great place to read a book!

Wal-mart, K-mart, Sam' s Club even Home Depot, most of the big box chain stores, carry Tulip Tye dye kits. These are VERY easy to use and very kid friendly kits with "EASY" to follow instructions. You may want to "practice" on a pillowcase or T-shirt first so you know the steps and are more comfortable prior to you tackling the larger projects. Just remember that with Tye dye there are "no mistakes", also and this is the most important part of the project, have fun.

You can also get the tie dye kits at Michael's and JoAnn Fabric. They each have an apparel section to dye or paint t shirts, hats, etc. Buy a package of Rit Dye and have fun. You can tie or rubber band the fabric. You can fold the fabric and dip only the ends. I took an art class in college and we even block printed and batiked fabric. The sky's the limit!
