Late Spring Garden Tour.

Somewhat Quirky
by Somewhat Quirky
The cold winter and 90 inches of snow seems to have everything at least 4 weeks behind schedule. All the hydrangeas had to be cut back to nothing and the azaleas that survived are a bit wonky but some plants seem to have benefited from being insulated by snow for 4 months.
I just planted 3 poppies and haven't managed to kill them yet. I'm good at that.
They all came with a "champagne mix" label. So far I've had bright orange, coral, and yellow. I guess that's what "champagne mix" means.
The clematis seem to be doing well. I don't know the name of this one.
The Ruutel Clematis is finally taking off at age 4.
This Blue Mammoth Hosta's leaves are over a foot wide. It makes the Guacamole next to it look tiny but actually has 9 inch leaves!
I planted this Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce last spring. It did well in the snow. I'm going to have to research pruning it this year. I don't want to mess it up. These puppies aren't cheap!
I love this Autumn Fern. It turns in the fall and is gorgeous all winter - if you can see it... I'm trying to collect a variety of ferns.
The weigela is kind of going crazy. I'll have to do some pruning in the fall.
I've never succumbed to the pansies in the spring thing before, but I did this year and I'm going to see how long I can keep them alive. Maybe I'll have some for the fall!
I replaced a large (dead) azalea with 2 Pink Beauty Potentilla. I had never seen these before. They grow to about 3'x3' and are supposed to be covered with little pink flowers all summer. I hope the color of the flowers gets a little more saturated with age.

I haven't done much with planters yet but I did dabble a little.
All of these Mouse Ears Hostas came from 2 small plants that I split aggressively before I planted them last spring. I was thrilled to see how they have filled in. I'm pretty enamored with these tiny baby hostas!
I planted this last spring to try to replace my VERY LARGE Laceleaf Weeping Japanese Maple that I lost 2 years ago. It won't be as big as the one that died until I'm long dead, but I'll try to enjoy this one.
I transplanted some Irises from a friends farm. These belonged to her grandmother and probably came from the grandmother's grandmother. I love plants like that.
I have three large clumps of Sum & Substance Hosta that I could probably turn into 23. I've got to make room for them! That's a Stained Glass Hosta to the right.
