A Mason Jar is the perfect base to use for gilding with a chippy shabby chic end result.
Gilding is a great option for adding a glamorous effect to many surfaces including mason jars and recycled jars in general.
I started with a vintage reproduction blue Mason Jar and a well-washed (label thoroughly removed) spaghetti jar.
Products used: Martha Stewart Crafts Foil Sheets Metallic in gold, Martha Stewart gilding adhesive and the Martha Stewart Gilding Brushes which were a bit expensive but I have used other brushes that produced a good result. I followed the directions per the products but I did not cover my jars totally because I wanted a chippy, imperfect result. I found that 'brushing' the finish when it was completely dry provides a very shiny surface.
