Keeping That Pump Running

Fountains are made to run continuously. These tiny little pumps work hard to keep the water moving in your ponds and fountains and should be left to run without interruption all summer! No need for timers or unplugging. Pond/fountain pumps are made to be plugged in all season.
But there is one time to turn it off...
and many people forget this very important part of having a fountain...
it needs to be cleaned!
Sometimes these pumps stop working not because they are old or broken but because they are full of gunk and debris!
I have a step by step tutorial on my blog showing more on cleaning your pump. It is not hard and may take you an hour but will extend the life of your pump.
Enjoy and happy gardening!
going on the 5th season!
Pumps usually come apart so you can clean them!
The pump has slime and gunk and was not easy to turn

Is there anything you can put in the fountain to help clean the entire thing, the container in general plus keeping the pump clean...i.e. bleach, vinegar ???????
    • My animals along with birds and other wild life drink out of all the fountains. So filling the one pictured is an every thing and every once in a while i empty it and clean it. Are there animals that can get to it?
