What kind of plant is this?

I got a cutting of this 8 years ago. It took forever to root, but suddenly it did and it took off. I have searched everywhere I can think of but haven't found it.

    @Maggie C, although your plant resembles a peace lily, I can see that it's not quite the same growth pattern (leaves appear smoother, and it grows vine-like). It may be an Aglaonema Modestum,a chinese evergreen that looks a lot like the peace lily. Google it and see if that doesn't match.

      @Maggie C, I didn't really think so either. @Barb Rosen is a really experienced gardener, and so is @Douglas Hunt. Maybe either of them can help. :)

    @Audrey Do the blooms on your plant open any more than that? I am not sure why, but I wonder if this might be some type of carnivorous plant?
  • Audrey Audrey on Dec 29, 2014
    I never saw it open more than that; I have been told it blooms and then that is what happens....seems I would have seen it at least once after having it bloom for 2-3 years.

    It looks like a night blooming cereus. I have one that was my great gandmothers. No one has been able to get it to bloom since she had it but I have high hopes for this year as it has really taken off. I just propagated another one and have my fingers crossed as these plants are actually kind of rare. They apparently bloom only at night once a year. It's a cactus/succulent I believe and actually grows in other trees in the wild. It can get quite large and supposedly likes to be root bound. Now this info is all from what I've researched, but looks like mine.

      @Maggie C ~ my pleasure!

    I think @kmal08 may be correct. If you look at this photo of an unopened night-blooming cereus flower, it looks much like @Audrey 's: http://choralnut.com/Gallery/New-Orleans-1/night_blooming_cereus

      @Douglas Hunt Yay! it is a night blooming cereus. Mine took 7 years to root in dirt, but now I have two giant plants and if I need to I can divide them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    I sure would love a piece to grow down here in the Bahamas!!!

      @Audrey Probably customs wouldn't let it through. They work very hard at keeping out invasive species, and they may see this as one down there. You might check that out. I would be willing to send you a cutting if it is okay with them. Just wish it would bloom for me.
