We've had this media center for over 12 years and it was made for those big, black ugly TVs. After getting a new flat screen TV we had a bit of a conundrum & I spent awhile tinking on how to redo this media center. The one I wanted to buy was over $10,000 which wasn't in the budget at all. So after thinking it through I attacked it with some chalk paint, waxes, sanding block and a small center piece from Ikea...total investment was under $200. HUGE SAVINGS! From old & ugly....to shabby-chic fabulous! For under $200 & some elbow grease!
The center piece was a cheap interim fix for the new flat screen...it had a 2 year life span until I finally figured out how to fix the media center to my liking. WAY too long! Buh Buh Bye old and ugly!
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White along with both clear & dark waxes and some sanding to distress.
This is a new Ikea piece "Hemnes" that I bought in white and then distressed to match the rest of the media center. I will switch out all the knobs to this rubbed bronze when I get them.
I restyled the top of the media center as well and left the inside of the glass cabinets the wood tone for interest.
I love how much it lightened up my family room....along with some new pillows and redoing the coffee table its like a whole, new space!
A few of my antiques and lanterns on top of the media center.
