DIY Rustic Americana Flag

While we usually hang a wreath on our front door, we thought a fun change for the Fourth of July holiday would be to make a rustic flag to coordinate with our Burlap Flag Column Banners. It went together in no time (with help from Doug from Hoosier Homemade) using scrap lumber and leftover paint, and we just love the results!
Here are some of the steps to create your own rustic Americana flag using scrap lumber - the full tutorial, plus a materials list can be found on our site!

While we wanted our flag smaller to hang on our front door, you could use the tutorial to make any size flag you want.
The stars were created with a simple template and then cut out with a jigsaw. We cut our wood slats, but you could also buy 1-1/2 x 2" pieces of wood.
All the pieces were painted. We painted lightly so the wood grain would still show through.
The painted slats are simply stapled together using small pieces of wood that covers all the slats on each side of the flag.
After gluing on the small blue slats and stars, it's simply a matter of finding a place to hang your patriotic creation!
