@Sally, I had a wonderful mass of ornamental lilies for several years, and last year the blooms, and then the stems (at the base) were eaten off completely, and did not come back this year. I bought new ones and planted, and I put a small, push-in wire fence around them, then sprinkled Repels ALL all around the base. I also placed moth balls around them. I am bound and determined to stop the critters. I suspect mine were rabbits (they nested in the middle of my lawn earlier in spring). So far so good. Good luck, and I hope yours come back. If anyone else has other suggestions, I'll be following.

I've sprayed a mixture of hot sauce and other cayenne peppers around my plants. It seems to keep them away. This link also has some good ideas. http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Naturally-and-Safely-Keep-Rabbits-Out-of-a-Garden

@Sally I am going to guess its deer since this is a problem we have in SW MI. This year I "tested" soap on a stick (one half of a bar of soap, tie wrap and stick) and it has been working for us. So far (6/26/14) no real deer problem this year. Apparently deer do not like the smell of Irish Spring soap!!
  • If you blooms are gone it sounds more like deer! Rabbits usually eat lower like hosta leaves and low lying veggies. Deer love lilies. You need to put a barrier around them. I use wire right now to keep deer away from my daylilies. It looks tacky but I do not care-it works and so for now the deer go to someone else's yard to eat. The deer wiped me out last year with my Asiatic lilies. I personally think it is mean to use hot sauce or cayenne pepper because it can hurt their delicate senses. Whatever approach you may have to change it up to keep the critters at bay. Good luck

Deer not rabbits unless you have really tall rabbits...lol there is a spray you can out on in the spring when the plants are full grown...it is Plantskydd...find it in any nursery or buy it on line. It really does work I made a believer out of my Nurseryman..he won't use anything else.

@Bwbakke Thank you, I'll look for this at my local nursery. We do not have any deer who are eating these.

I gve in and used Liquid Fence, based o rotten egg and garlic. It smells at first, but then goes away so olnly animals can smell it. You have to apply every time it rains.

@DORLIS Thank you, I'll look for this product and the one that another person suggested, Plantskydd. The issue cannot be deer.

If it is just buds, could be deer. This is a delicasy for deer.
