Has anyone ever successfully painted their tiled floors?

The tile floors in our kitchen and den are hideous! I hate, hate, hate the color (off white) and they are old and grody. No matter how much I clean they always look dirty. I want to change the color as an interim fix until we can afford new wood flooring. I've read I can use an XIM(?) primer, then paint, but I haven't seen any information that shows results of this process. Have any of you painted tile floors? How did it come out? I have cats, dogs and kids so I need something that will last at least a little while. Thanks in advance!

I used oops paint in a red bricky color... and cut a sponge to the size of a brick... then made my pattern--!!--!! leaving a lil of the cream tile underneathe to show thru as grout... then when i was done i used a wet rag ad added some grey and black to various areas to get the weathered look........ everyone loved it. wish i had saved pics :(

I painted our kitchen floors with One Step paint from Amy Howard at Home, and sealed with a durablity polyacrylic meant for floors. Holding up great!

I painted my son & daughter-in-laws kitchen and bathroom floors to look like Grecian Marble. It sounds like a lot of work, but actually only took a day to do both. I do a lot of artwork so maybe that helped me move faster. I worked in sections about 4'x4', rolled the base coat (cream), used a standard 2" brush and cut in some chocolate and a 1/2" brush to cut in some copper while the base coat was still wet. Then I took a clean dry brush and with GENTLE pressure, pulled the colors into a blurred look with the chocolate and slightly sharper image with the copper. It is fun to play with and figure out the movements. After it dried COMPLETELY, I double coated it all with a maple stained( to tone down the base color) polycrylic to seal it. It was nearly 5 years before they redid their home and they chose to leave the floors as they were. It turned out beautifully and held up very well. Oh, and the polycrylic I used was gymnasium quality. Go for it and have some fun with it!!

I have the same question. I want to paint my kitchen ceramic tile floor. Most of the responses above are about painting vinyl or subfloors. Anyone with experience painting ceramic floor tile?
