How to Clean Really Old Linoleum Floors

Does anyone know how to clean really old linoleum floors? Like the really old ones that are orange and have weird geometric designs on them? They are not smooth at all. Very porous, dull and dirty! I can't use toxic chemicals because I am pregnant.

I would try a solution of Murphy's Oil Soap, then rinse with white vinegar solution.

yes the solution of Murphy's Oil soap and then the white vinegar water to rinse should do it... It may take a bit of scrubbing but both these items are just great for cleaning up old flooring--including wood...

You can also try a Mr. Clean magic eraser on them. It will require scrubbing on your hands and knees, but I've seen them remove stains when nothing else would. And they have no chemicals, odors, etc. either; they use just plain water.

Toothpaste and a scrub brush works great then rinse with water..

In the "old" days, back in the 70's I can remember using ammonia or a cleaner with ammonia , to really clean it and strip the old wax. Re-waxing would be so rewarding, because it would really look brand new.

Ok, I tried the Ammonia, scrubbed really hard with a scrub brush and then used an old towel to wipe up the grunge. It worked pretty well. I was only able to do 1/3 of the floor since I am 34 weeks along with my 4th baby and the belly is hard to work. I hope to get the other 2/3 done before I have to move everything back in! I will try the magic erasers around the edges, since they were hard to get with the brush, and then I will look into sealing the floor. Thanks you!

@Amanda Eastman If you try the Mr. Clean magic erasers first, you may not have to scrub "really hard" when you clean the rest of the floor. ) Those things truly are amazing! I had areas in my home that I had scrubbed as hard as I could, and used every cleaner I could think of, but still couldn't get them clean. It was after I discovered the Mr. Clean magic erasers that I was able to clean them with just a swipe - literally! I even use them on my ceramic stove top for cleaning burned on food, and it comes of quickly and easiy with no chemicals, fumes, or hard scrubbing. Oh, and I promise, I have no stock or interest in the company, I just think you will be as pleased with them as I was. ) And congratulations on the baby, my best to you both!
