Tips on Growing Grass FAST?

We have an area under a trampoline that we will be selling. The grass under it has died and there is very little grass left. Does anyone have any ideas besides purchasing sod, to get the grass to grow quickly..like in the next 3 weeks? Thank you!

  • I hate to tell you this but you cannot grow grass that fast unless the conditions are absolutely perfect. Grass seed for the most part needs germination time of anywhere from 10 days to a month depending upon the type of grass. sorry for the bad news

Wasn't sure, but thought I'd ask. I might have been a stupid question, but needed to know if there was a new product on the market that someone might know about. Thank you for your response.
    • @ not stupid. but really there is no fast solution. it would not hurt to plant a good grass seed like Scotts and that way it is starting to 'pop up' and so everyone sees it is a coming back?

I really figured that, but one can "hope". I believe we will just purchase some Scotts and hope for the "BEST"!! No need to worry about it, if I can't make it grow "faster"!! :) Thank you so much!!!

The grass that grows under the trampoline is living in perfect living conditions. Just like growing in a green house. If you start the seed now it will be protected from being walked on while it is under the trampoline. Only need to rope it off for a short time after selling trampolin.

Robin, thanks but as I stated in the my question we really didn't want to spend the money on sod.....don't have any idea how much it would cost since it's a big area. Thought going with "grass seed" would be the most economically. Thanks...we may have to go that route anyways!! ~~~ Irish53, we may just get some grass seed and throw under there until we can get the trampoline out of the backyard. Thank you both for your suggestions!! :)

Move the trampoline ! Water frequently, every day,cut down any branches that block the sun, water with some miracle grow. it will happen!Add some manure before you seed it.if your lawn is sandy put down some loam. Buy Scott's seed!turn the trampoline on its side, and keep the kids off that space, even if you need the put out stakes and rope it off!make sure you put the trampoline in in a safe place!no sun,no grass!

@Funnygirl Part of the problem "Funnygirl" is that there are so many trees around the back yard area, that it only gets a few hours of partial sun. That's our dilemma! But thank you for your other thoughts.....may use them!!! :)

Since you are putting the house on the market match the grass you have now. If you have sod, you will want to put down sod. It might not bring you more money, but it might just get it sold quicker. Dig out or till down a couple of inches in the space, put in some bags of top soil and lay sod. Yesterday, we had 900 sq. ft. of Zoysia installed. Our instructions were, "put down liquid fertilizer tomorrow, water it every day for 30 minutes and don't mow for 30 days at least! Put out a small sign that says, "trampoline removed and new grass installed"...potential buyers will know this is not a sink hole or some other hidden problem. Or you can seed, keep it watered and put out the same sign...it just won't be as "finished"! In 3 weeks. Lean the trampoline in the garage so they can see you had one! HA! Good luck!

Jeanette......Oh, I like your thought process!! :) We may have to end up spending the extra money to put the sod in; to make the house presentable to sell and hope for the best outcome. Thank you so much for your insight and "really like your enlightening thoughts"!!
  • There is grass seed that builders use all the time that will green up in a few weeks time. It will grow quickly and will grow on anything its place on, even cement walks and driveways. It however does not last long. The following spring it will need to be replaced. It has shallow roots, and does not fair well with winters. But combine both better quality seed with the builders stuff and you will have a green lawn pretty fast. As long as the weather remains warm and you keep it damp so it grows. Check your local garden center, not the big box store types. This seed comes in burlap bags in larger sizes.

Your information is helpful and we may check into this. The only problem that I would forsee is the "terrible winters" that we have. Hoping to get the house sold before fall!! Thank you for responding!! :)
    • @ woodbridge is speaking of annual rye grass which is also sold by scotts seed and is about $8 a bag. mix that with the better grass seed and when the annual rye dies the other grass seed should take over. good luck on selling your house!

Another idea-turn it into a garden bed after you move the trampoline.put a bird bath in the center, dig up the area with no grass put down some mulch and add a couple of plants or shrubs.can take bird bath when you move.Looks intentional !

Hadn't thought about doing that, but a "good" idea. Thank you!!!
