How to Season Cast Iron Skillets

I spent years watching my grandma and mom use cast iron skillets in the kitchen. Once I was grown and married, I realized just how incredible these things are. Most everything just cooks and tastes better coming from cast iron. There is some getting used to caring for your cast iron skillets, though.
By seasoning your cast iron, you're guaranteeing better tasting food, non stick cooking, and much easier clean up.
Seasoning is really just as simple as adding a coating of oil or shortening and curing in the oven. You never want to use soap when cleaning your cast iron cookware, as this can strip your seasoning. It's best to clean your cast iron with water and a stiff brush after cooking once skillet has cooled a bit.
