Driftwood Eastlake Dresser Makeover

Alchemy Home
by Alchemy Home
I got this dresser from Craigslist- and it was yuck. I mean, really gross.... cobwebs, dust about 2" thick, sticky and stained drawers, and needed quite a few repairs. However, I knew that it was a beautiful piece, and had so much potential, so I got to work and here's what I did!
Below is the "before"....it's really not a true before picture because I'd already cleaned it up; it was so gross that I refused to bring it inside to paint until it was thoroughly emptied, dusted, wiped, cleared, etc. you get the picture. But you can see how beautiful she is! And if you're going to say "Don't paint that beautiful wood, you'll ruin the value!", you may as well stop reading here...because I did paint it, and I love it:-)
I've been wanting to try out doing a driftwood finish on a piece, and this one seemed perfect. After doing the necessary repairs and prep work, I wanted to see what was underneath the original finish (or what was left of it), so I sanded down the top and got to work.

After all of the work, I added some new handles from World Market to replace the ugly plastic ones and that gave the piece just the right final touch!
I'm totally in love! And she's on sale now in my Etsy shop for anyone else who loves her as much as I do!

I'm usually a fan of keeping the original wood visible but what you've done with this piece is magical! The drawer pulls are stunning with the design on the drawers!
