Window seat

I have always wanted a window seat for my bow window. My problem is that I have baseboard electric heaters under my window that can't be enclosed. Does anyone have any Idea's for a DIY window seat that would be easy for a non professional to tackle?

  • leave the bottom open. You can frame out over the top spanning the space, then install the seat on that. Leaving the bottom open will still allow air to flow around the heater keeping the place warm. As long as you have at least 12 inches of air space from the top of the heater to the bottom of your seat, you will be fine. You can decorate the front with a open metal screening to make it look as though it is a solid type of front. Make removable panels that can be taken off for cleaning behind that area. Magnets for kitchen cabinet doors work well for this.

I like the suggestion made by Woodbridge Environmental. Perhaps you could use some (removable) decorative lattice panels for the front, or add some pretty storage bins which could be taken away during the winter months when the heater is in use.
