Garden Downsizing

After spending a day weeding and deadheading in the garden an idea began to formulate. I need to downsize. This is our forever home and I need to reconsider just what garden beds I love, what flowers, bushes I truly enjoy and what I can manage over time. I've chosen a bed in the front yard to drastically reduce. When our family gatherings occur we sit under the old oak tree in the backyard. This area is beautifully shady, but sloped. If I reduce the size of the bed in the front I can increase space for us to gather and enjoy each other's company on a level surface. My husband is happy with this idea - he loves his lawn. I plan to better group my plants, increase flowering perennials such as Hydrangeas - for a hedge and give away some plants - this is/was a difficult decision - I do so love all my flowers - but for me I know in the long run - this is a good decision.
Summer lilies are blooming everywhere - combining this with other perennials will be fun in my downsizing project
A passalong plant I received a while back, Milk and Wine Lily - I will keep!
We will enjoy the shade underneath this cypress tree as well as the shade provided from our neighbor's Pecan tree.
This is the garden bed that will be reduced. It is about 50 ft long and 4 to 10 feed deep. I plan to draw the line back and keep the azaleas, Crape Myrtle and add Hydrangeas.
