  • The kitchen is long and has 2 very small windows originally. They were replaced with larger ones to allow more light to come in.
  • A cupboard door was taken off for open shelving on each end of the upper cupboard and 4 drawers became baskets on one side of the sink and 4 drawers became an area for a dishwasher on the other side of the sink. 3

French Country Cottage Kitchen

We love our 1940's vintage kitchen as it is now- but not so much how it was when it started out. We kept the original cupboards and character while updating it~ the ceiling fan became 2 ...»
vintage chandeliers, doors came off a couple of cupboard for open shelving,we added beadboard and beams to the ceiling, etc~ Did I mention that this kitchen was remodeled on a big time budget? Yep, it was.

Lots of befores and afters in my post at my blog :

I didn't know the look I loved so much was mostly French Country....with other beautiful ...»
things thrown in....beautiful to me. Whatever happened to Christopher Lowell, Kitty Bartholemew etc. on HGTV? A lot of what's 'in' now is scaled down, plain without any real beauty.

  • Add a small waterfall to your small pond to keep it properly filtered and aerated (which means less maintenance). 5
  • This 4'x6' pond was installed using a DIY kit. It sits right next to the patio providing a great view. 6
  • The pond often takes center stage in the yard. And look ... no grass to mow! 6
  • An unused corner of the backyard becomes an oasis and is no longer wasted space. 1
  • This small pond and waterfall is tucked beside a patio situated under a deck. A great solution for a spot that was once an eyesore. 3
  • This waterfall has a very shallow pond (just a couple inches deep) for the kids to play in. 3
  • Create a unique deck setting by tucking a pond into the middle of it. 2
  • This small pond reflects its Asian influence. Japanese gardens are typically void of color other than the green of surrounding foliage and the grays and browns of smooth stone. 3

Small Water Gardens

A pond or water garden doesn't have to be large to be enjoyable or beautiful. Small ponds provide the sight and sound of water in the landscape and will attract birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and more!

Free Repurposed Fence Board Counter Top

This is a project we just completed over the weekend. We being my hubby! :)

We had some old, timeworn, chippy aqua fence boards so we used them as a new counter top ...»

on the bar in our sun room, which is right off the kitchen. Not for everyone I'm sure... but this counter was vanilla laminate before, so it's an improvement to us.
