Antique lamps

I have two lamps that are extremely old. They were given to me by my mother in law.
Tiffany?
She passed when she was 82. The first has a little piece of glass missing on one panel. Extremely heavy piece, has a number on the bottom.
Another?
The second one is pottery, original colour of clay is red. There is something written on the bottom, but I don't want to take it apart just in case. It seems to be hand painted.
Top to the pottery one.heavy.
I know they came from the same source. Any guesses?

Believe your fist lamp is called a "slag" lamp. Go over it carefull with a magnifying glass and see if you locate any identification on the structure of the shade or the bottom. Look closely around the area that is numbered. Google for a pic of a similar lamp and for locations of signature/branding. I have a slag lamp currently in for repair, it was my grandmother's and she died at age 102! My lamp took a tumble when I moved recently and the shade is out of round and one of the glass panels was already cracked although none of them broke when it fell. This repair shop said they can fix the glass panel (not replace but repair) and the shade and bring it into round. I'm picking it up saturday...not cheap ...$300 for the repair.

Yes, there is a number on the bottom of the " slag lamp " it is probably done by hand...very heavy base. I was just wondering how much these would be worth?

Regarding the first lamp, I believe this is called a "slag" lamp. I would Google for information about where a signature or brand may be located and also try to see what the number represents. I think sometimes the ID is on the structure of the shade and/or the bottom of the lamp. Use a magnifying glass. I have a slag lamp that is currently in for repair (it took a tumble when I recently moved and the shade is out of round, one of the glass panels was already cracked, they say they can fix this too, we'll see on Saturday when I pick it up). Not an inexpensive repair ($300) but it too belonged to my grandmother when she passed at age 102!

Yes,my mother in law was 82 when she passed...and she got it from one of her aunties. I always wondered what they would be worth, not that I want to sell them...I would just like to know.

  • Are there any other identifying seals, marks, trademarks, or information on the lamps? I'd check at the base of the lamp, on the underside, and possible up top where the light bulb goes.

Yes,the slag lamp has a number on it...I believe it was put there by hand as it is uneven..very heavy base. The patina is sort of greenish and a very nice bronze colour. The second one , the ceramic one has been painted by hand...very beautiful. There is something printed on the bottom ...right onto the clay base. I will get back to you on this..will try to take a closer look. The clay is still in very good condition considering I have moved 3 times. The original colour of the clay was red...and you can really tell when you look at the bottom...when you separate the wooden base from the clay.
