Sounds like red ants.their bite is very painful so be very careful.they say sprinkle borax around ant nest, they ingest it and bring it back to nest, spare you the rest of details but will eventually destroy the nest good luck. Can buy borax anywhere for about 5.00 for a large box.

I also heard that vinegar will do it.. Mix it with water and spray but I forget the dilutions.Perhaps you could look it up on uses for vinegar..

Mix some very fine or powdered sugar with the Borax (20 Mule Team) and sprinkle it where the ants travel. They will be attracted to the sugar but also consume the borax. It causes gas in their bodies which they cannot get rid of and they die. They do take it back to their nest. Can also mix the sugar with baking soda which I think will do the same thing!

Because we have a dog who might get into whatever we used to get rid of these pests, we pour cornmeal over the cracks! Ants, etc. cannot digest the cornmeal and therefore die! Safe, cheap!

I use coffee grounds to get rid of ants. I always save grounds and let them dry. Sprinkle where the ants are "bugging" you and...no more ants.
