High wind landscaping

anyone have any suggestions on inexpensive ways to dress up a rental home yard for curb appeal in a very high wind area in colorado?

My thought would be to plant Colorado natives with an open habit (so that they do not offer a lot of resistance to the wind) in large containers. That way you could take them with you when you move.
