My fireplace is green granite and I don't like it. Can I change it?

It's a dark green that doesn't go with anything else in the house. It's hard to tell in the picture, but it's a marbled green color.
I'm not sure what you do when granite is laid into the floor and walls. Any suggestions???

This green granite (Marble?) is a classic so it is never really dated! It is laid on the wall and floor to prevent sparks from starting a fire. There are codes on fireplaces so you will need to check with your local city/county before making any changes. You are limited in choices only by your budget. And just about the time to spend a lot of money, it will be all the rage again! I never thought I would see olive drab again, but now it is everywhere! Personally, I would look for some green jade looking pieces, maybe a brass carved plate, an oriental lantern, etc. and sit them on the ledge above the fireplace...making a sort of Zen setting! This would go with any decor from modern to traditional!

Have you ever thought of painting the room a soothing sage as opposed to the boring beige? Just a thought. I painted my living room several colors until I finally found the one that made me say "aah" when I walked into the room, and my "aah" color turned out to be a sage green that I still find calming and a beautiful backdrop. That would incorporate the granite instead of making it stick out like a sore thumb. I would also have some black end tables to coordinate without being too heavy.

Yes, you can likely remove that tile but then to keep it to code you'll have to replace it with something else. Removing tile can be tricky. I've done it a few times and sometimes the tiles pop right off, but sometimes they take the surface below with them, which means more repair work. If you've never tackled this kind of project before, you might want to call a handy man for a quote.

Because it looks flat, I would go to a tiling store (with people who know what they are talking about) and find out if there is some sort of application that would allow you to tile over it. You aren't limited to tiles per se, you could also adhere a stacked stone or Quartz product.

If you're going to leave the color of paint on the wall the way it is now, you could take it up and go with a different color of Quartz, rock or stone. You could even use different kinds of tile these days. Subway tile is absolutely gorgeous and timeless. You really have a lot of options. I always google things. Just google "Tiles, Quartz to put around the fireplace". That might help you some. Or whatever material you might want to put around it. Good Luck and have fun.

You can paint over it, just prime it first. Rust-o-leum has fabulous products for painting ANY surface! But I agree with @28 results are available, use up and down arrow keys to navigate.Claire M and would first consider changing the wall color, or even going all the way around your fireplace with faux stacked stone. A gorgeous transformation!
